Enrollment Process for the MS2TC Program:

The Middle School Math Science Technology (MS2TC) program enrollment process begins in the fall of each school year.

About Us

The Middle School Mathematics Science Technology Center – (MS)²TC – is modeled after the district’s internationally recognized high school program, the Macomb Mathematics Science Technology Center (MMSTC). While MMSTC integrates mathematics, science, and technology, the middle school program integrates mathematics, science, and literacy (reading and writing), with technology infused throughout. Both programs emphasize real-world, project-based learning that challenges students’ thinking, broadens their understanding, and stretches their knowledge while meeting their developmental needs.

Admissions Criteria

Fifth grade students may qualify to apply for admission to (MS)²TC based on their Spring 4th grade and Fall 5th grade NWEA scores. Additional criteria include the student’s CogAT© results and Teacher Recommendation forms. Enrollment is limited to 56 students in the morning session and 56 students in the afternoon session at Butcher Educational Center.

Can my child study for the CogAT?

The CogAT isn’t a test of what students have been taught, it measures how they think, reason, and problem-solve. Because of that, there’s no way to study for it the way you would for a math or spelling test.

What helps most is giving your child regular opportunities to stretch their thinking:

  • Play board or card games that involve strategy.

  • Encourage puzzles, brain teasers, or logic challenges.

  • Talk through how you solve everyday problems and ask them to share their reasoning.

These kinds of activities can build flexible thinking skills, but no prep book or cram session guarantees a higher score. The CogAT is designed to capture natural reasoning ability.
